Miriam Vera is
beginning her first year as the Topcats Dance
Director. She was previously the assistant director
at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas for the
Silverados Drill Team.
Ms. Vera grew up in
Guadalajara, Jalisco (Mexico) until age seven and
then moved to Brownsville, TX. She attended Lopez
High School where she was a member of the National
Champions Golden Stars Dance Team and served as a
dance officer her junior year, and the Captain her
senior year.
After graduating from
high school, she auditioned for the prestigious
dance company, American Dance/Drill Team School, and
was selected as part of the American Dance family.
She then moved on to become a member of the Code
Blue Collegiate Dance Team at St. Mary’s University
at San Antonio, TX where she assisted in training
the team for an International/National competition
with American Dance. In 2002, Ms. Vera helped the
team win Nationals in Division I teams—that was the
first year Code Blue Dance Team had attended a
competition and took home the highest honors.
Ms. Vera continued
her education at Texas Woman’ University in Denton,
TX, where she was a three year member of the
pre-professional Modern Dance Company, DanceWorks
Repertory Company.
Ms. Vera was an
active instructor for the Community Dance Center at
TWU, where she taught dance classes of various forms
including Ballet, Modern, Jazz/Hip-Hop, Latin dance,
Salsacize, and Creative Movement. She graduated
from Texas Woman’s University with a Bachelor’s
Degree of Arts in Dance Education on May of 2006.
Ms. Vera continued to
perform for a professional Modern dance company in
the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Muscle Memory Dance
Theatre. She was a member for M2Dt for two years.
She is now recently a Staff Captain for American
Dance/Drill Team Company and serves as a camp
manager for various dance workshops, clinics, and
dance camps.
Ms. Vera is very
excited to be the new Topcats Dance Director and
looks forward to creating new traditions with the
Topcats, and establishing a strong technical dance
program with her dance students.
