Miriam Vera is beginning her first year as the Topcats Dance Director.  She was previously the assistant director at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas for the Silverados Drill Team.

Ms. Vera grew up in Guadalajara, Jalisco (Mexico) until age seven and then moved to Brownsville, TX.  She attended Lopez High School where she was a member of the National Champions Golden Stars Dance Team and served as a dance officer her junior year, and the Captain her senior year.

After graduating from high school, she auditioned for the prestigious dance company, American Dance/Drill Team School, and was selected as part of the American Dance family.  She then moved on to become a member of the Code Blue Collegiate Dance Team at St. Mary’s University at San Antonio, TX where she assisted in training the team for an International/National competition with American Dance.  In 2002, Ms. Vera helped the team win Nationals in Division I teams—that was the first year Code Blue Dance Team had attended a competition and took home the highest honors.

Ms. Vera continued her education at Texas Woman’ University in Denton, TX, where she was a three year member of the pre-professional Modern Dance Company, DanceWorks Repertory Company.

Ms. Vera was an active instructor for the Community Dance Center at TWU, where she taught dance classes of various forms including Ballet, Modern, Jazz/Hip-Hop, Latin dance, Salsacize, and Creative Movement.  She graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Dance Education on May of 2006.

Ms. Vera continued to perform for a professional Modern dance company in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Muscle Memory Dance Theatre.  She was a member for M2Dt for two years.  She is now recently a Staff Captain for American Dance/Drill Team Company and serves as a camp manager for various dance workshops, clinics, and dance camps.

Ms. Vera is very excited to be the new Topcats Dance Director and looks forward to creating new traditions with the Topcats, and establishing a strong technical dance program with her dance students.
